Pretty Wild Vegan

Day 1 – Outbound Departure Heading for Kenya

SO there I was, visiting Kenya. My plan was to document this trip as a vegan traveling far from home. I thought I would be able to blog a couple times a week, but unfortunately, the wifi was totally unreliable in most of the places I stayed. That means I am documenting the vacation now, from the comfort of my own home. No matter. I am ok with posting the experience and pics a little after the fact.

Starting from the beginning. One week ahead of my departure, I called Lufthansa Airlines to order vegan meals. I called back 48 hours before my departure to confirm the selection. They assured me my meal was set. Perfect. And with that, knowing what I know about being vegan, I packed enough snacks to assure I wouldn’t be hungry if I couldn’t eat what they served…..You know, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I’d rather be safe than sick any day.

Finally, departure day arrived. My husband, Jeff, got me to O’Hare Airport in Chicago in plenty of time. I checked in, got on the plane, and settled in for the 9 hour trip to Frankfurt. Shortly after takeoff, they served the first meal. I wish I had taken a picture of it. It was yogurt, bread and butter and some curried chickpeas with cheese. Yep! not vegan and not what I ordered. I asked the stewardess about it. I told her what I had requested. She took my tray away and asked me to wait while she worked something out. She came back with this total SCORE!!

With that, I was off to Kenya and thrilled about it!
